“A blessed little corner of south-west France made up of gently rolling hills, fields of corn and sunflowers, winding roads empty of cars and pretty little towns and villages, where people always have time to talk to you. It's like an unspoilt Tuscany or Umbria, or Provence, and I'd better shut up now or I'll be responsible for spoiling it.”
Sam Taylor, describing the Lot-et-Garonne
in the respected British newspaper, 'The Observer'
If you want to capture the essence of "la vraie France", Jill Fellows, artist, and Peter Evans, photographer, offer you a great opportunity. Our superb-value, all-inclusive painting and photography holidays are set in a hidden part of France; a picturesque landscape of single-track lanes winding past vineyards, orchards and sunflower fields to ancient and beautiful Bastide towns and villages.
Beginners are very welcome, as are non-painters/photographers who would like to come along to accompany painting or photography friends or partners. You'll be staying in a tastefully renovated, 350 year-old pantiled farmhouse, tucked away in the quiet countryside, some 100 kms south-east of the historic city of Bordeaux
We invite you to join the hundreds of delighted guests who have discovered the hidden treasures of this area since we began hosting our specialist holidays in 2005. For example, did you know that Claude Monet found his famous water-lilies here?
The 140 year-old nursery where he bought them still exists and is a not-to-be-missed visit on our itinerary. So why not allow us to show you places like this - places and vantage points you might never find on your own? We did it for the celebrated British chef, Rick Stein, and we can do it for you!
On the subject of Rick Stein, of course you will also have the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic food and wine our region has to offer, discovering for yourself why the Lot-et-Garonne was featured strongly in Rick's highly popular BBC television cookery series "A French Odyssey"
You'll also get to meet the charming and incredibly friendly local people, to observe at first hand the wonderful luminosity of colour of this beautiful countryside and to extend your painting or photography knowledge in an informal, relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere. As previous guests have discovered, with us, learning and having a good time always go together.
When 'Chez-Nous', you can relax and enjoy yourself in our pleasant garden, or take a cooling swim and catch some sunshine in our private pool
area. The heated pool is kept at a pleasant Mediterranean temperature so that you can enjoy it throughout the whole season. Even though this is an activity holiday, we appreciate that you still need time to unwind!
Each evening we usually take an apéritif out on the terrace and chat about yet another great day. As would be expected on a quality vacation like this, all drinks at the house are free and limitless (within reason!).
Your comfort, learning experience and overall enjoyment are our primary concerns. We want you to have a really good holiday, returning home inspired and satisfied, with paintings or photographs that you can be proud of.... and happy memories that will last just as long..... à votre santé !! .....
